Nef Nunez & Bradford James Feat. Lydia Rhodes “Half Moon”

Half Moon (feat. Lydia Rhodes) - Nef Nunez & Bradford James

Legendary house music siren LYDIA RHODES teams up with DJ/producer NEF NUNEZ & Seed Recordings main man BRADFORD JAMES on their sizzling KID Recordings debut, “HALF MOON”. The set marks the first in a series of new releases from the renowned singer/songwriter who gained international acclaim for her string of club classics (and Sound Factory staples) throughout the 1990s, including “DJ, Give Me That Funky Bass” (MCA), “Live It Cool” (Pagoda/MCA), “Away” (Ultra) and “Until The Moment” (Liquid Groove).

The trio unleashes a simmering late night floor-filler oozing with Rhodes’ sensual, baby-sweet vocals (akin to BJORK and ESTHERO) against a fragrant backdrop of supple keys, flittering electronic textures and a contagious chunky bassline that harkens back to the minimal deep funkiness of seminal house music classics like Cultural Vibe “Ma Foom Bey” and Bang the Party “Bang Bang You’re Mine” while incorporating soulful tech house, jazz and electronic influences. The end result is a tender and poetic serenade dressed in sophisticated, organic dance grooves.

Featuring potent re-rubs from internationally renowned DJ/producer TEDD PATTERSON (who revs up the energy with deep and dark, peak-hour mix drenched in zappy synths, shuffling tribal percussions, shimmering vocals and a stealth bassline primed for maximum dance potential) and Helsinki’s best kept secret, ROBERTO RODRIGUEZ (who recasts the song into a blissful and hauntingly sexy, dubby tech-house workout rippling with timbales, congas, shakers and lush chords), the single is poised to be this winter’s sleeper hit and set favorite guaranteed to incite bouts of sweaty, overtly sexual dancing from people who wear sunglasses at night!

Automagic “Shimmer”

Shimmer - EP - Automagic

New York-based producers/remixers AUTOMAGIC (aka DJ Will and Bryan Wright) have steadily built a loyal fan base and critical acclaim for their dynamic selection of “electro-soul” and “dubby disco” releases (and remixes) on influential labels like Buzzin Fly, PeaceBisquit/Curve, Definity, A Touch Of Class and Chillifunk. For their long-awaited KID Recordings debut, “SHIMMER”, the duo deliver a dazzling electronic tour-de-force that waxes nostalgic for the glorious age of boundless musical cross-pollinization that defined the “no wave” era (roughly between 1979-1982) – where post-punk, disco, reggae/dub and the burgeoning underground club music scenes became familiar bedfellows. Will and Bryan concoct an addictive and trippy, space disco groove melding their signature warm and subtle synth melodies, percolating percussion, techy stabs and a familiar infectious vocal hook guaranteed to please discerning music lovers in lounges, cafés, hotel lobbies, cars or at dawn in the club.

And while the song maybe firmly rooted in the aesthetics of the past (and could easily fit neatly within classic sets from seminal Downtown New York haunts such as Danceteria, Mudd Club, The Loft and Choice), its decisively fresh modern sound should thrust the duo right into the epicenter of the international future disco revolution heralded by artists like LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, STILL GOING, THE JUAN MACLEAN, AEROPLANE, LINDSTROM, TODD TERJE, DIXON, CLASSIXX, TENSNAKE and more.

The single also includes 2 brilliant reconstructions from rhythmic visionary, ROB RIVES (aka FLOPPY SOUNDS / PHANTOM POWER) – “Rob Rives Fight Your Fears Away Mix” and “Rob Rives Moanstrumental”.

With Rives at the helm, “SHIMMER” gets reworked into an incessant and fantastically tripped out journey blending sultry, whispered vocal caresses with driving progressive house, dub and minimal tech undercurrents (recalling GIORGIO MORODER and TOM MIDDLETON). These mixes showcase Rives at the top of his game dispensing the same expansive, tech-induced soundscapes that fuelled his releases on Wave, Yoshitoshi, Saw and NRK, and were the hallmark of his incendiary mixes for artists likeKRAFTWERK, YOKO ONO, UNDERWORLD, X-PRESS 2, LUKE SLATER and MAGNETIC FIELDS.
